And now Chapter 16 Part 4
Thus far was the analog for the first type of desire corresponding to the Upper Purity - one’s inner taste - however, as for the second type of desire --the revealed desire, which is composed of generalities and specifics-- the correspondence for this is after the aforementioned tzimtzum/lessening. Namely, that the simple, predetermined will of the Essential Self comes into the realm of extension and expression, this being the aspect of the heyuli kav u’chut [line and thread of light], which includes all of its particular issuances of light and vitality it measures into the hishtalshellus/chaining of this kav/line from its beginning to its end, as discussed previously.
Its (the line’s) first makif [encompassment] being what is called the Lower Purity, which is analogous to the general desire for a great building including all of its particulars from the beginning to the end all at once. Then, afterwards, it is divided in an orderly manner going from general to specific, as with the aforementioned analogy of the desire for a home. This is similarly the manner of the desire for creation, namely, that when it arose in His simple heyuli desire specifically to bring the world into revelation, it then included all of the particular desires of the hishtalshellus/chaining that would come after it; and it is the general desire that includes them all and is called the ratzon ha’kadum [the ‘first desire’] for everything that comes after it. Then, afterwards, this desire comes in a particular manner, such as the particular desire to emanate which includes the desires to emanate the ten sfiros of Atzilus and all of their particulars.
[This being the inner will for the world of Atzilus or Emanation - i.e. to have a revelation within His own mind so to speak (analoguous to the mental plan of the house within the person who wants it) of the particulars of the Divine will, which the world was to fulfill.]
However this was all still concealed (within the Primary Will or first desire - Ratzon HaKadum) until it later came to revelation with the actual emanation of the light on the level of Atzilus etc., bringing about an actual revelation of the divine will, creation was to serve. As with the analogy of one who desires to build a house, first, he has the general desire to build a house and then this is divided into the particular desire of figuring out what he is looking for in a house. Yet, until he actually sits down, say with his wife and discusses what they are looking for, this remains hidden within his inner taste and is not a revealed light or expression of his taste.
Then, afterwards, comes the desire to create something from nothing etc. and this desire likewise includes intellect and emotions etc. This is the creation of the simple substance or matter from which everything is made, though at this time it is completely simple, devoid of any form. It is only the general vessel allowing for the existence of a world according to the G-dly design.
This is analogous to the creation of the first concept of the home to meet ones needs and desires. For example, First the man thinks within himself what he wants and needs frm a home. This is analogous to Atzilus/emanation Here he thinks "I like to swim." Then comes the next level corresponding to Briah/creation. At this point the desire to swim becomes the concept of a swimming pool or beach, though not yet with any thought as to the particular size, shape, etc., of the pool. Likewise, in general, the desire for a ‘home’ now becomes the concept of a ‘house’, an actual physical building. This stage is like when the man goes to an architect and they discuss the concept of the future home.
Then comes the world of Yitzirah or Formation, where the form which the simple matter is to take on is decided upon, though it was not yet applied to it. This is analogous to the planning of the exact dimensions of the house and its exact architectural design and form put down on a blueprint. The actual building of the house by a contractor culminating with the person moving in is analogous to Asiya - Action
Until, the very last desire, which is expressed by the verse "everything that G-d desired He did etc." --the culmination of everything i.e. this material world.
