This series is a continuation and should be read in order. If you are not familiar with previous posts you may have trouble understanding later ones.
However, at the same time in the level of the essence of the Heyuli desire for kindness as it is before it yet comes to be a desire for a specific thing, even though surely even there, within the essence of the Heyuli power of kindness, there must exist in some form the divisions of intellect, emotions, etc. for they come from there, yet still, they are absolutely included and united as one.
This seems to be a paradox, for it seem that we are saying that the
particulars of the kind deed both do and dont exist within the
souls Heyuli for kindness. Yet really there is no contradiction at all,
one must only understand the nature of what we have termed a Heyuli. First, let
us look at the example. Let us take this do-gooder ten minutes before he did
the good deed; were the specifics of the deed there? In a way they must have
been, for we see that upon request it was immediately fulfilled with all of its
details and all of these details came as a creative expression of this persons
character. This means that they all must have been included in a Heyuli manner
within the person. However, if we look at the true essence of the persons soul,
we see that it is devoid of any type of actual specifics like Wisdom or
Kindness AND the Kindness also has no actual specifics like giving money or
giving food or giving clothing etc. We can see this in the fact that until the
soul descends into a body in this physical world, it has no knowledge of the
specific physical things it will need and therefore its essential Heyuli
character has to learn how to express itself within this physical world. So
that the manner of the expression of its kind nature is totally dependent on
the nature of our world and culture and must be expressed according to what is
being asked of him by the supplicant. Being that in this world people need
food, cloths, and a home, etc., and we derive pleasure from these commodities
and pain from their lack, it is (under most circumstances) therefore considered
a kindness to help a person to fill his or her need in any of these areas.
While, being that we derive pain from, say, being beaten, therefore (under most
circumstances) it is considered cruel to beat another. However, if there would
be a world where people needed to be beaten regularly for their health and this
process was considered pleasurable (kind of like in the gym) then beating a
person would be considered a favor and kindness (remember, people even pay
their personal trainer who "beats" them into shape). So we see that the essence
of the soul is really totally infinite as far as its potential for self
expression and is itself totally removed from any of the specifics details that
exist in a physical act of kindness. Therefore, its relationship to these
specifics can not even be referred to as a normal potential, what is called a
Koach [
] in
Kabbalistic and Chassidic terminology, for something is only referred to as a
potential power when it is limited to the specific like the fire in a coal. The
difference between a Heyuli and a Koach is explained
elsewhere in Chassidus by way of the analogy of the difference between a coal
and a flints ability to make fire. A coal has a potential for fire within
it. The fire actually existing there as a chemical potential; lighting the coal
merely brings this chemical energy into revelation as kinetic (Bepoel
) energy. As a result,
the amount of energy in a coal is a limited and measurable amount of Calories
of energy. On the other hand, a Heyuli is compared more to a flint,
where the potential for fire has no real existence within the flint and
therefore,
a) the flint could be soaked in water and this will not diminish its ability, unlike a coal or log, because the fire does not have any potential existence within the flint - just a heyuli for bringing fire out of "nowhere"
b) the potential is immeasurable and in a way infinite (aside from possible erosion of the flint, although, in theory, if the flint were hard enough it would not erode)
c) this potential can only be revealed by hitting the flint.
So too, in a Heyuli power, the ability that it can reveal does not have its own existence within the Heyuli, but rather is only a property of the Heyuli itself. Therefore, the Heyuli can reveal its ability infinitely and this does not detract, lessen or use up the Heyuli itself. However, since the specifics of the revealed ability have no separate existence within the Heyuli the Heyuli must therefore be "hit" so that they will come out; such as practice, which reveals ones inner talent. (In truth, a Heyuli power is even more essential and is an even higher level of unity and inclusion than that which can be expressed by a flint; however, this basic explanation will suffice for now and the difference will be explained later.)
