Previously:
Two levels of Binah: Binah and Tvunah.
Tvunah is the extension of the light of Binah as a result of the proper absorption of the concept in the brain to bring it to expression into different things in many different ways
Examples of the separate things into which Tvunah can extend:
(a) analogies to explain the understanding of Binah to someone else
(b) a decision or ruling based on the understanding of Binah, as in a legal decision and
(c) a practical use for the understanding of Binah,
(d)The man of Tvunah can bring to light the Midos (emotions) from the Midos of Binah,
Yisroel Sabah and Tvunah are the Middos of Chochmah and Binah as they are COMING OUT of Chochmah and Binah rather than how these middos were actually part of Chochmah and Binah themselves.
And Malchus (Kingdom) of Tvunah is the aspect of the intellect that comes into conscious thought . This is the level of thought that the intellect is enclothed within and it is the external vessel of intelligent thought,
Two aspects of thought come out of Malchus of Tvunah, one: the content of the thought and two: the division of the letters of thought
Tvunah is called "Ben UBas" (Son and Daughter i.e. the emotions) (The letters of Tvunah when rearranged are Ben U'Bas), as is known.
Tvunah also has three dimension: depth; length; and width.
The depth of Tvunah is the essence of the power of this Tvunah-insight into the particular understanding
The length of Tvunah is the concepts descent into a separate matter, to advise with it or to perform many activities with it, etc..
The width of Tvunah is the extension of the Tvunah within the concept itself to widen the concept in ones thoughts in many different ways and not only how it is itself.
Now, when we say that the level of Tvunah includes within itself Ben UBas (Son and Daughter), meaning that the Midos are born out specifically from Tvunah into revelation as a separate entity. For, from Binah itself there would not be the birth of the Midos, though it is called the Mother of the Children, etc.
Ben UBas (son and daughter) are the two primary emotions of love and fear (i.e., a positive and a negative response, Chesed and Gevurah,
Tvunah is the downward extension of the light of Binah, into anything separate
And now Chapter 2.09
It is also for this reason that the aspect of the intellect within the Midos (emotional attributes) comes from the level of Tvunah (and similarly, we find a scriptural verse that, when interpreted on the level of Sod - the mystical level of interpretation utilized by the Kabbalah - indicates what we have just explained, as it is stated "G-d founded the earth with Chochmah (wisdom)" for the Father (Chochmah is referred to as the Father and Binah as the Mother, because, just as with a physical father and mother the mother develops the seminal drop of the father into a child; so too, Binah takes the seminal drop of an idea from Chochmah, analyzes it and develops it completely) founds the daughter meaning that the power of speech (referred to as the daughter for it corresponds to the feminine attribute of Malchus, as will be discussed later), requires the quality of Chochmah as a prerequisite, as will be discussed later at length. Now, more pertinent to us, the verse continues - "and He established the heavens (shommayim) with Tvunah (understanding)," meaning that the heavens, which refers to the emotional attributes (Midos), as is hinted at in the Hebrew word for heaven - shommayim which is a conjunction of the two words aish and mayim meaning fire and water, the substance of which the heavens are made. Also representing the two main emotions of love and fear, Chesed and Gevurah, water representing Chesed and fire representing Gevurah. This is related to the fact that love and pleasure causing an increase in the bodily-juices, such as drooling over a good meal, while fear causes a drying of the bodily-juices, such as when ones throat gets dry from fright; and similar parallels discussed elsewhere, as is known. So too, is the interpretation of and with Tvunah they are established, which can be understood as referring to the maintenance of the emotions by the faculty of Tvunah. For the faculty of Tvunah is a sort of intermediary serving to bring the intellect from the purely intellectual Midos of Binah into the emotions of the heart, for the emotions are activated (and hopefully governed) by the intellect. This is comparable to the power of application to a matter separate from the idea itself, which is the central characteristic of Tvunah, as was mentioned previously).
