Chapter 1 - Part 8

Analyzation and Meditation

All that we spoke about up until now is an above to below flow, meaning, the intellect starts out in the Maskil (potential for all intellect) . Through the depth of Hokhma, the intellect is received in the mind as a flash, which is the width of Hokhma. The length of Hokhma then prepares the intellect to go down to the next level. The intellect is then received through the depth of Binah, and enclothed in explanations, the width of Binah, so that it can now be explained to another. The length of Binah then brings the intellect down further yet, to the point where it can even possibly be explained to a child. All of this is from above to below. The intellect starts out on a much higher level, the Maskil, the potential for all intellect in the soul and goes down to a lower level and from there to an even lower to where a child can receive this once lofty piece of intellect. In this whole process it is the depths (of each level) that are essential, for it is the Kesser, the self-nullification that moves the upper level to want to come out of itself. This is from by above to below, like by a teacher (who has a higher intellect) teaching a student (lower intellect).
